The CGAI, created by the decree 210/1989 of 5 October of the Xunta de Galicia, was open the 15th March 1991 and has been developing its activities in audiovisual and photography fields regularly.
It is the institution of the autonomous administration in charge of audiovisual matters and its functions are the following:
- To recover, catalogue, care and diffuse the productions and works of the Galician audiovisual and photographic heritage.
- To program screenings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, etc. in order to provide a wider knowledge of the image arts.
- To collaborate, with the former aims, inside and outside Galicia.
- To participate in the promotion of the Galician audiovisual production in markets, trade fairs and festivals.
